The economic and commercial heart of the Vendée, La Roche-sur-Yon, in its green setting, pulsates year-round to the rhythms of events that are as numerous as they are varied. An original city thanks to Napoleon, it is always fresh as it is constantly renewed.

From a village overlooking a river Napoleon chose to a make a modern city, idealistic and open to the world. Dominated by the equestrian statue of the emperor, the city centre of La Roche-sur-Yon has its very own specific identity waiting to be discovered.

Visitors can discover the life of the city centre districts and its boutiques, the Haras National (National Stud Farm), the “Napoleon circuit”, the central square and its monuments, the gardens, the shows, and so much more.

The city has an immense expanse of water of 700 Ha, a beautiful swimming-pool – ice-rink complex and sports centre in the countryside, and formal parks for relaxation. It offers significant resources in terms of hotels, restaurants, and commercial equipment.

Go on a tour, a complete or even incomplete circuit by car, bicycle, or on foot along winding country roads in an environment that has kept its traditional agricultural character, and where you will catch glimpses of ancient chateaux and their parks.

The countryside reflects the dynamism of traditional family-run livestock farming. Traces of past history, traditions, the woods and forests, and the network of footpaths have left their marks on the area.

The river Yon: Moulin Papon and its 700 Ha (for sailing, fishing, and rambling), its beautiful path through the town, the rolling valley with the vestiges of ancient activities, circuits for horseback riding, canoeing, family walks up to the “gorges” and the “Chaos du Piquet”.
